Why hasn't Lewis Hamilton signed yet?
Why does it take so long?

Two more months until the new Formula 1 season starts. World champion Lewis Hamilton still has no official contract with Mercedes in his pocket. Why does it take so long?
Recently, after a period of absence, we saw another sign of life on Lewis's social media. He uploaded a video in which he did cross-country skiing. It looked like he was having a great time, but of course there is more going on behind the scenes. The whole F1 world is awaiting Lewis Hamilton's decision. Will Lewis go through for his 8th title, will he sign a multi-year contract or will he quit? Since May last year, there has been considerable trade between both parties (Hamilton and Mercedes).
A deadline was first set for the end of the season, but it has been postponed. Why does it take so long? both parties have been loyal to each other since 2013, no more searching is necessary. A lot of people suggested that Hamilton wants a more expensive contract. Which does not work out well with the new budget cap that will take effect from 2021.
It may also be that Mercedes is reluctant to give a multi-year contract since the 7-time world champion is already 36 years old.
In addition, Hamilton has indicated several times that he sees a greater role for himself within Mercedes and motorsport. As a driver of a healthier corporate culture, a smaller ecological footprint, electric driving and a better working environment, with an emphasis on equal opportunities and the fight against racism.
The question is what will happen at Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes. These will of course also be of great help.
Hey World, I’m in one of my favourite places in the world, training everyday, getting my mind and body right. I’m hiking to the top of the mountain every morning. Two of those hikes I cross country ski once I get to the top which is at 3400m, killer. Proper altitude training! ... pic.twitter.com/ROqzQe70LO
